Retraining and alternative employment

Where returning to previous work is no longer realistic, we consider transferable skills, qualifications and abilities, possible retraining routes and the employment opportunities likely to follow. Where specifically instructed and relevant to the issues in the case, occupational psychometric methods may also assist in considering likely ability to compete with others for particular roles, retraining potential or career options.

We examine the entry requirements and demands of proposed training, its duration and assessment methods, any support or adjustments that may be required, and whether the route is realistically achievable for the individual. We also consider the availability, earnings and progression associated with the employment likely to follow.

The aim is to identify credible pathways into sustainable employment, rather than simply produce a list of theoretically possible courses or occupations.
