Claimants injured when young

We assess the future employment and earnings prospects of young people by considering their education, abilities, interests and wider circumstances. Where there is little or no work history, we identify realistic career and earnings scenarios, supported where appropriate by labour market evidence.

Where an injury or condition occurred before a person entered or became established in employment, there may be little or no work history on which to base an opinion about likely career and earnings. Future careers cannot simply be predicted from academic attainment or parental occupation.

We consider educational progress and attainment, abilities, interests, family and social context and, where appropriate, the relevant medical or educational psychology evidence when identifying the range of career paths that might realistically have been open to the individual. Rather than imposing false precision, we may identify and compare credible career and earnings scenarios, supported where appropriate by labour market evidence.
